Engen's Product Stewardship Programme
Engen's product stewardship programme ensures the identification and management
of the health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) risks of our products
and packaging throughout their life-cycle, from cradle to grave. This forms part
of Engen's Product Lifecycle Management Process (PLCM), which is used to design,
develop, introduce, review and withdraw our products, to ensure they meet
customer needs, return optimum profits and reduce costs of obsolete and dead
stock. Engen has a comprehensive in-house product safety data sheet system (SDS's)
which is used as one of our source documents in risk identification. The Engen
product stewardship programme enables HSEQ risks relating to Engen products
through their lifecycle to be communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
Engen's conceptual model and framework for Product Stewardship is depicted in
the diagram below:

The concept of this model is that during the life cycle of a product, from
Need Recognition through to Disposal/Recycling – there will be a number of
actual or potential HSEQ risks. The role of Product Stewardship is to anticipate
these risks in each stage of the life cycle and to mitigate them through the use
of appropriate control measures. HSEQ Management Systems and Programs support
this risk identification and mitigation process.
