Engen Xtreme Polo's feel the heat approaching Zwartkops
Monday, 24 August 2009
After the last Kyalami meeting in June the dynamic duo of Miguel Pasqualli and
Kosie Weyers will be approaching Zwartkops on 15 August both feeling that
they have a good chance of charging down the championship title with only three
race meets to go.
In the practice rounds at Kyalami, the Polo's were performing and the set up
proved favourable for a successful weekend. However, in qualifying the Saturday,
Miguel who was fiercely determined to post a good time pushed his Polo too hard
going into turn four, causing him to run into the sand trap and roll his car.
With Miguel eliminated from Race 1 due to the extensive damage to his car, it
was up to Kosie to fly the Engen Xtreme flag. Unfortunately, he only managed to
place 7th, with the race being fought up front by Gennaro Bonafede and Devin
Robertson. Meanwhile, the pit area was abuzz as Xtreme Team Principal Terry Moss
managed to get his hands on Jared Mortimer's car and transplant some of the
vital parts across to Miguel's wreck, with him starting from last place in Race
2.
Miguel drove a superb race in his multi-coloured Polo to finish in 4th place
after Kosie was given a yellow card for being too robust with a fellow
competitor, meaning that he was excluded for race 2 and from competing in the
next 3 events with a 20kg of penalty weight in the car.
Terry commented after the race, "The time posted by Miguel in race two was the
second fastest, and had it been his own car, who knows, he could have won from
the back, once again. Kosie who has shown good pace in every race this season
needs to learn to stay out of trouble, but this will materialize over time and I
have no doubt he will be a major force to be reckoned with in the near future."
The ultra competitive duo of Pasqualli and Weyers will be a closely watched
affair as the team prepares for Zwartkops, with the two a mere 38 and 39 points
and adrift (Kosie and Miguel respectively) from the number one spot.
