All eyes on the Engen Xtreme Team at Engen National Race Day
Monday, 18 April 2011
The Engen Xtreme Team enter the third round of the WesBank Super Series
today with quiet confidence as they prepare the final touches in presenting
their complete ‘one team, one look’ livery at Engen National Race Day on
Saturday 30 April 2011 at Aldo Scribante Raceway in Port Elizabeth.
After experiencing an exciting and triumphant weekend at Killarney earlier
this month, where the Xtreme Team claimed two race wins in the Bridgestone
Production Car category and an overall race day win in the Engen VW Cup, the
team have a renewed focus to continue in their winning ways. Capetonians
also witnessed another first in the new Engen Xtreme Audi S4 which made an
impressive maiden race appearance. Driven by Michael Stephen, the new
engineering notably dominated the scene and has helped Stephen to a current
5th position on the National Championship log. Competing in last season’s
machinery, due to his new chariot having blown an engine in pre-race
preparation, Tschops Sipuka still managed to keep spectators on the edge of
their seats as he drove a masterful race to keep the opposition at bay to
take his first Production Car win of his career in the formula.
In the Engen Volkswagen Cup, Xtreme Polo driver, Kosie Weyers lived up to
his 2009 title of “Rookie of the Year” with a championship performance,
taking an overall race day win in Cape Town which has given him a massive
push up the log and into 2nd place chasing Devin Robertson. Team mate and
veteran Engen Xtreme Polo driver, Miguel Pasqualli experienced some
unfortunate luck on his home track and which saw him start from the back of
the grid in race one. Home track knowledge and his mature driving skills
soon got the Cape Town driver through the field to finish a respectable
11th. Pasqualli completed the challenging race day in 9th position overall
and is confident that his performance will not have those technical
gremlins, which is every driver’s nightmare.
Xtreme Team Manager, Michael Stephen commented: ‘Having successfully
launched the new Audi S4 in Cape Town with a pole position and race win, I
will be expecting much the same in PE. We have sorted out some teething
problems with the new car to improve the reliability. The car is fast and I
will be going for pole, race wins and overall victory for the day. I can’t
wait to launch the S4 on the Scribante race track at home.’
Engen and the Xtreme Team look forward to an exciting 2011 season with new
technology and renewed effort from both the technical team and race drivers
will undoubtedly deliver the much sought after reward and which is proof of
performance.
2011 will see Engen continue their support for the Red Cross War Memorial
Children’s Hospital and specifically, it’s world renowned Burns Unit. The
coming season will see a continuance, where R136 is donated for every point
the drivers score during the race season. After the last meeting at
Killarney the drivers accumulated 141 points amounting to R19 176.
