Clean sweep for Engen Xtreme Team at Zwartkops
Monday, 14 November 2011
An exhilarating Round 8 of the WesBank Series at Zwartkops last weekend
ended with a clean sweep for the Engen Xtreme Team, with VW Polo driver
Kosie Weyers taking honours in both rounds, while Engen Xtreme Audi driver
Michael Stephen dominated in the Bridgestone Production Car category, and
maximized his points in the two-hour endurance event by crossing the finish
line in first place.
The highlight of the day saw Port Elizabeth pair Stephen and former South
African champion Shaun Watson-Smith race their way to a spectacular victory
in the two-hour Bridgestone Production Car endurance race. Watson Smith
started the race in third position and held his ground for the first 23
laps. He then relayed to Stephen who scorched his way around the circuit to
take the chequered flag 15 seconds ahead of the Afrox BMW pair of Anthony
Taylor and Etienne van der Linde. The win secured double points for Stephen
who, following impressive results in the day’s earlier races, now sits a
mere one point behind Fourie in the race for the Bridgestone Production Car
championship.
On the VW Polo Cup front, Engen Xtreme driver Kosie Weyers dominated his
class, winning both Engen VW Cup races on the day. The results secured the
Cape Town-based driver second place in the championship. Devin Robertson
sits in an unassailable lead at the head of the standings and has already
been crowned champion.
The Engen Xtreme Team drivers were not the only ones to receive accolades
at Zwartkops. The team’s technical crew was awarded the Top Technicians
prize in recognition of the incredible work they performed on Engen Xtreme
Team driver Tschops Sipuka’s car between races and the professional manner
in which all their pit stops were conducted.
As always, Engen remains committed to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital;
specifically its world renowned Burns Unit. As part of their ongoing
dedication to raising funds, The Engen Xtreme Team donates R140 for every
point accumulated by the drivers at the race. After the last race meeting at
Zwartkops, the Engen Xtreme team had accrued 635 points, equating to
R88.900, all of which will aid the plight of young burn victims.
The final round to be held at Zwartkops on 26 November. Don’t miss out on
this breathtaking final, come witness Xtreme Racing at its best!
