Engen Xtreme Team eyes Kyalami circuit
Thursday, 13 May 2010
With the upcoming fourth round of the racing competition less than a
month away, the Engen Xtreme Team is looking forward to a challenging outing
at the famous 4,2km Kyalami circuit in Midrand, Gauteng, on Saturday 5 June,
2010.
The team's overall performance has shown a great improvement and they will
now enter the fast-paced Kyalami track with more confidence after a very
good showing at the Engen National Race Day which took place in their own
backyard at Scribante. The Port Elizabeth event was attended by over 9000
motorsport enthusiasts who thoroughly enjoyed an action-packed day of
racing.
The Engen Xtreme Team had high hopes of outperforming their competitors,
especially with Scribante being the home track of Michael Stephen and
Tschops Sipuka. Long hours of hard work was put into getting their cars back
in front after encountering a few technical problems at Killarney earlier
this year and both were satisfied with their overall performance at the
Engen National Race Day. Having set their fastest lap times at their home
circuit, Audi driver, Stephens finished second for the day with 79 points
and Sipuka holding 17th place with 16 points.
In the VW Cup category, Engen Polo drivers, Miguel Pasqualli (5) and
Kosie Weyers (6) showed admirable determination at the event and Weyers
currently lies third in the championship league with 53 points. After
starting in last position, Weyers showed his class by driving with
determination to make up 11 places to eventually finish in ninth place
overall. Pasqualli, who holds second position in the masters' category with
55 points started in tenth position but with a great display of driving
skill, worked his way up to fifth place overall.
Boosted by their last performance on the track, the Engen Extreme Team
will now commence with their preparations for the next race meeting on
Saturday, 5 June at Kyalami, where they will be aiming for even better
results.
Engen will also continue their ongoing support of the Red Cross War
Memorial Children's Hospital through its 'Racing for Red' campaign where a
generous amount of R130 is donated for every point the drivers score during
the race. After the event at Scribante, the team scored 203 points moving
this season's 'Racing for Red' campaign up to R26 390.
The 'Racing for Red' fundraising initiative forms an integral part of the
overarching Engen Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital campaign that
aims to raise 'R1 million by 2010' across all of Engen's sport sponsorship
portfolios. So far, the overall fundraising campaign has donated ,more than
R 700,000 and with the upcoming Engen National Race Day will have another
great opportunity to maximize funds to move the fundraising campaign even
closer to the target of R1 million.
