Engen Xtreme Team races to Zwartkops circuit
Wednesday, 01 September 2010
The Engen Xtreme Team are confident and look forward to persist with their
challenge for top spot on the overall championship leader board when the
sixth challenge in the WesBank Super Series at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria
takes place on Saturday 11 September 2010.
During their last race outing in Phakisa, the Engen Xtreme Team showed
admirable determination throughout the day despite the mechanical
difficulties. Stephens finished in 10th position on the day but still
managed to hold onto his third place position in the championship standings,
with Sipuka one place better in 9th position. Stephens, who is looking
forward to making up some lost ground on the leader board, commented: "Due
to the unexpected damages suffered at Phakisa and the short time frame
between races, we have no major changes for Zwartkops. However, the team has
been working hard in-between races to ensure that the cars are performing at
their maximum for Zwartkops." Stephens added: "We are confident that in both
the production cars and in Engen Volkswagen Cup we will have competitive
cars that will be challenging honours. The team is very optimistic for a
good result after showing good speed at Phakisa."
In the VW Polo Cup, Engen Polo driver Kosie Weyers displayed a remarkable
overall performance by when he claimed third place overall. Weyers showed
his mettle in all the races and has worked his way steadily up into third
place in the championships. After overcoming a challenging day, Miguel
Pasqualli finished 17th overall but still holds first place in the Masters
championship.
Furthermore, the Engen Xtreme teams will also receive additional
heart-warming rewards as their positive results and points accumulated
translate into donations towards Engen's dedicated beneficiary, the Red
Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital. Through the 'Racing for Red'
initiative Engen donates a generous amount of R130 for every point the
drivers score during the race to this worthy cause. So far for the 2010
fundraising campaign, after the Phakisa race meeting the team has garnered
344 points, which have contributed R44 720, with an aim to raise in excess
of 'R1 million by the end of 2010' across all of Engen's sport sponsorship
portfolios.
