Engen Xtreme Team relish Killarney challenge
Friday, 01 October 2010
With less than a week to go the Engen Xtreme Team is looking forward with
confidence to the seventh round of the WesBank Super Series at Killarney on
Saturday, 2 October 2010. The team has been hard at work in preparation for
the upcoming race, but the racers took timeout from their hectic schedule to
visit the children of the Red Cross Children's Hospital Burns Unit.
The Xtreme Team spent some time with the children of the Red Cross
Children's Hospital Burns Unit on Thursday 30 September and presented them
with gifts donated by Engen. The visit is part of the 'Ride for Red'
campaign, a social responsibility initiative of Engen. In supporting the
charity work, the Engen Xtreme Team drivers continue to show their support
for the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital as they gather valuable
points for the initiative where funds are donated for every point the
drivers score during a race meeting.
To date, the team scored 402 points, pushing this season's 'Ride for Red'
campaign up to R 52 260, 00. Overall, the fundraising campaign has donated
more than R700 000 and is well on track to raise 'R1 million by 2010' across
all of Engen's sports sponsorship portfolios.
On the racing front, Engen VW Polo Cup driver, Kosie Weyers has returned to
top-form and will be determined to continue his good form with victories at
Killarney. 'I will try my utmost to out-qualify Robertson and Hodges and to
avoid running into any trouble during the races. I've got the home track
advantage for the upcoming race, so I'll try my best and make use of it,'
explained Weyers. The 2009 Rookie of the Year is currently third on the
leaders log and must win the Cape Town race to stay in the hunt for
championship honours. Pasqualli still leads the master's category and he
also will be pushing for a good showing in order to widen the gap between
himself and his nearest rivals. He is currently leading the chasing pack by
three points.
Meanwhile in the Bridgestone Production category, Stephen is still in third
position on the championship log while Sipuka will be hoping to improve on
his ninth place with just three race meetings now left on the championship
calendar.
Be sure not to miss out on this action packed weekend taking place at
Killarney race track on Saturday 2 October 2010.
