Schoeman commits to Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge
Tuesday, 23 August 2011
Eight time South African Cycling Champion, Anriette Schoeman has once
again committed to competing in all three of the Engen Dynamic Cycle
Challenge races in 2011.
The first challenge kicks off in her home-town of Port Elizabeth, where the
Nashua Toyota rider will be looking to repeat her win of 2009. Schoeman, one
of the more Senior ladies on the pro Tour, has not lost the edge which saw
her win eight national titles, five Pick ‘n Pay Cape Argus titles and be
crowned ‘National Cyclist of the Year’ for three years running – 2001 to
2003.
PE is happy hunting ground for Schoeman as she successfully dominated the
inaugural race in 2009. “PE is my home town and I expect to do well here,
after all I cannot disappoint the people here who know me so well.” In fact
Schoeman has won the VW Herald Cycle Tour in PE a whopping 13 times, which
clearly means she knows the roads and has a massive advantage of knowledge
of terrain. An advantage which will no doubt stand her in good stead come
race day on the 18th September.
Entries have now opened and prospective participants can either register for
the 100km, 63km or 21km route online at www.cyclelab.co.za or collect your
entry form at selected Engen Forecourtsand Wayne Phieffer Cyclesin Port

The registration fees for the long route (100km) is R120, medium route
(63km) is R100 and short route (21km) is R80. Closing date for pre entry is
Monday, 5 September. Both fun riders and professional cyclists are
encouraged to enter; the first 250 entries and registrations will receive a
limited edition Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge t-shirt. As part of the pre
entry incentive and Safety drive, Engen will be issuing the ‘Engen Saddle
Tag’ which will include medical information and details of each participant,
a very handy tool for all cyclists to carry on them. This tag will be issued
upon entry and should be placed just underneath each cyclist’s seat.
Cyclists and spectators attending the Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge can look
forward to exciting prize give-aways, these prizes include two Avalanche
road bikes, a voucher for two to participate in any EDCC Event,be it Durban
or Cape Town including onenights’ accommodation and cycling hampers.
The EDCC starts and ends at Altona Primary School and spectators can expect
a host of activities from an Engen Safe Cycling demonstration for the kids
to great on route entertainment at the Engen water points. Engen would also
like to call on all cyclists to contribute their old bikes or bike parts at
the Engen Bike Donation point which will be situated in the race village,
all donations will be refurbished and donated back into the Engen Safe
Cycling community programme.
Across the EDCC events, Engen will again donate 50% of all the entry fees
raised, to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Burn’s Unitto aid
the plight of young burn victims. Last year Engen raised just over R 80 000
across the three Cycling events and hope that with the communities support
this year, will exceed this amount.
