Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge Rides For Red Cross Campaign

Wednesday, 08 April 2009

The highly anticipated Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge (EDCC) makes its debut on the windy shores of Hobie Beach at the annual Splash Festival in Nelson Mandela Bay on Sunday 12 April 2009.

This year, like in 2008 the organisers of the EDCC will again contribute 50% of all the entry fees raised, to the Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital Burns Unit. Last year in its inaugural year, the EDCC, through its Ride for Red campaign raised in excess of R22 000 for the unit. This initiative is part of Engens broader charity initiatives, with the Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital Burns Unit as its beneficiary.

Through Engens sponsorship of sport (comprising of Motorsport, Soccer and Cycling) in 2008 a combined total of R125 8750 was raised, adding to the total of R538 075 which has been raised to date for the unit through the Engen sponsorship platforms.

This year the initiative will again roll out across the EDCC Series and is one that Engen is truly committed to. Engen is also a partner to Velokhaya, to promote safe cycling among children through the Engen Safe Cycling Programme. Engen Corporate Sponsorship Manager Brad Bergh comments Through this initiative, Engen is committed to improving the lives of ordinary South Africans and Engens continued support of the Red Cross Childrens Hospital Burns Unit is an indication that as the largest petroleum supplier in Southern Africa we are never too big to care.

Nicky Bishop CEO at the Childrens Hospital Trust, commented Engen has been involved with the Hospital for many years, and we would like to thank them for their ongoing support of the Childrens Hospital Trust, the fundraising arm of the Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital. It is wonderful to be associated with this sporting project which promotes health and wellbeing within the community and we cant think of a better way to raise funds for the little patients so they can also get healthy and back home where they belong,.

The generosity however does not end here, and at the end of each year Engen and each of the sponsored programmes contribute to the hosting of a Christmas Party in honour of the brave children of the Burns Unit. Last year it was smiles all around at the fourth annual Engen Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital Christmas Party. Forty young VIP guests made up of predominantly out-patients and supported by parents, staff and social workers were all in attendance and in good cheer as they celebrated this annual event.
