Absa Premiership Preview:

Engen Santos and Ajax sets up scintillating derby contest!

Friday 27 November 2009

A scintillating contest sets up an action-packed football weekend as Engen Santos host Ajax Cape Town at Athlone Stadium on Saturday 28 November, 2009, in the second Cape Derby of the 2009/10 Absa Premiership season. Kick off is at 20:00.

Earlier this season, Ajax Cape Town had a taste of the strength and determination that has made the People's team a success this season. Engen Santos claimed top honours earlier this season by coming away with a comfortable 2 – 0 win against the Urban Warriors 2 – 0 in the first derby of the season that was played in August.

Since then, the two Cape Town sides have been neck-and-neck on the Premiership table, trying to oust defending champions Supersport United at the top. Traditionally, Cape derbies have always been a very tight affair with results often ending either in a draw or with one crucial goal that separate the two teams on the day.

Engen Santos coach Boebie Solomons comments, "We go into the Cape Town Derby with a moral boosting draw against Bloemfontein Celtic behind us. The Derby will be one of the most anticipated derbies in recent years as both teams are doing very well. The match is also the first game back at the newly-revamped Athlone Stadium and it is fitting that the Engen Santos FC vs Ajax Cape Town match takes place."

However, Engen Santos will be further motivated to claim full bragging rights this season as a win will not only keep their Premiership title aspirations alive, but will also provide this season's Engen Santos Goals for Charity fundraising initiative a much-needed boost. Since 2004, Engen has donated more than R500 000 in aid of the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, with this season campaign barometer resting at R36 000.

What's more, football fans that attend this fixture will also be able to make their contribution as this game is marked as Game for Charity with R5 of every match ticket sold, donated to this worthy cause.

For this game, Engen Santos will be missing Thabiso "Stix" Ntloana, who is still serving suspension for the red card he received during the Kaizer Chiefs game and Tawonga Chimodzi, who is out due to a knee injury.
