Engen Xtreme Polo Cup gear up for Killarney

As the drivers of the Engen Xtreme Polos prepare for the next outing in Cape Town on 9 May, their pitiable performances at Kyalami will still be fresh in their minds after both drivers suffered the cold cruel hand of the challenging race circuit first hand.

Veteran, Miguel Pasqualli and rookie, Kosie Weyers both suffered a blow to their expectations for Kyalami when in Heat 1; the cam belt on Miguels engine broke, resulting in the second engine having to be installed. Kosie rolled his car on one of Kyalamis testing, quick corners in Heat 1. Both drivers missed Heat 2, but managed to be race ready for Heat 3. As the heat got underway, Miguels car overheated requiring him to pit and Kosie just not seeming to find his race temperament resulting in him finishing near the bottom of the field.

In qualifying on Saturday morning both drivers set out with very little improvement, Miguel and Kosie qualified 7th and 20th respectively on the grid for Race 1. From the outset the two Xtreme Polos were never in true contention, with Miguel posing a minimal threat to the top five, whereas Kosie, just never featured. Miguel finished Race 1 in 6th place. In Race 2 Miguel showed great pace off the starting line leading the field before being overtaken by visibly more responsive cars on the day. Miguel was quickly relegated to 5th place, a position he maintained till the end.

The weekend ended on somewhat of a sombre note. Kosie commented after the dance events, Sulke dinge gebeur in motor racing. With both drivers returning to their home track, they are positive that Killarney will prove to be a far more successful outing, where they will be seeking to accumulate maximum points on the day.
